Our 56-page itinerary between Broome and Perth traverses landscapes that feel vast, remote and deeply Australian. Leaving Broome’s red pindan dust and turquoise waters, we head south through the Kimberley fringe and into the Pilbara, where ancient rock formations, wide open plains, and dramatic skies dominate the view. Long, quiet stretches of highway are broken by small roadhouses and coastal turn-offs, each offering a glimpse into life in Australia’s outback. The changing colours of the land –
burnt reds, ochres, and deep blues – make this drive feel like a moving gallery of natural contrasts.

Further south, our itinerary reveals some of Western Australia’s most memorable coastal highlights including Ningaloo Reef near Exmouth and the world-heritage-listed Shark Bay situated on the westernmost point of the Australian continent. As we approach the Gascoyne and Mid West regions, the landscape softens into seasonal wildflowers, rolling farmland, and dramatic coastal cliffs.

By the time Perth comes into view, you will feel like you have traversed multiple worlds: remote north, rugged heart, and the more settled southwest.

We have allocated a month for this itinerary; however this includes some travel days with 6+ hours driving time. Everyone travels differently so do not hesitate to extend or condense itinerary to suit your family.

This itinerary makes an ideal section as part of a longer trip, or even a lap of Australia. The driving directions, accommodation options, timeframes, and things to see and do listed in this itinerary are all our recommendations based on over 30-years of caravanning experience - but it is ultimately your choice to decide what you do during your travels!

If you don't have a caravan, motorhome, tent or similar - this itinerary could still  be used as many of the Accommodations Options listed also have holiday cabins.
