Explore the popular Victoria River and Kimberley regions via the blacktop - sticking to sealed roads suitable for 2wd vehicles and on road caravans.

This 42-page itinerary offers an authentic Australian outback adventure across some of the most remote and dramatic landscapes in northern Australia. Leaving Katherine, we venture into the Victoria River region - one of Australia's most rugged and remote outback areas. Enjoy vistas of open savannah plains dotted with ancient sandstone escarpments, gorges and floodplains as we follow the Victoria Highway to the Western Australia border.

Crossing into Western Australia, we wind through striking gorges, rivers and farmland as we make our way to Kununurra - the gateway to the Kimberleys. Nearby Lake Argyle is a stunning detour.

From Kununurra, the journey heads southwest along the Great Northern Highway, taking travelers through the heart of the Kimberley with vistas of dramatic ranges, savannah woodlands, boab trees, and endless red dirt plains.

By the time we approach Broome, the landscape gradually softens with coastal plains and the Indian Ocean appearing on the horizon.

This itinerary is an excellent first trip for the caravanning novice. It also makes an ideal section as part of a longer trip or a lap of Australia.
